This month marks 938 consecutive days of photographs. I call this project the Things I Saw Photo Galleries.

This project first began back in January of 2008 when I decided that I would post one photograph per day, every day.

Description: Today after work I parked my car at the canoe launch parking area off of Cochran Road by the Winooski River in Richmond, Vermont so I could go for a mountain bike ride.

I went left on the trail and followed until it went up to Cochran Road and back down along the river then back up to the road again which put me in front of a cemetery. To the left of the cemetery is a trail. It goes, up, up and up some more via a series of switchbacks. ( If you like slow twisting up-hills then you will enjoy this.)  Eventually I came to Cochran’s ski area and sped down a utility road and ended up bushwacking back to Cochran Road. Then I popped back onto the River trail, followed it back past where I parked and road it out to the bridge at Jonesville – then back down Cochran to my car. It was a great ride! Lots of flowy, winding, fern-lined trails alone the river. Great riding route. You can see it here – http://www.mapmyride.com/route/detail/20168034/

Description: One of my favorite mountain biking trails (American Trail in Jericho, Vermont) has a few abandonded cars scattered around the trail system. This old Mercury is in the best shape of them all.

West Bolton, Vermont Mt Bike Ride 3D Video Map
Jul 8th, 2010 by Michael McKennedy

There are lots of great mountain biking trails around West Bolton, Vermont. This particular trail is one of my favorites. It’s single track, lots of up hill and personally I find it challenging every time.

The route takes you around Lower Preston Pond as well as Upper Preston Pond via a windy hiking path in the beautiful (but buggy in the summer) Vermont woods. You pass over several wooden bridges, go by the Long, pass a few beaver huts and who knows, you might even see a moose (I have) or a bear (yup, saw one of those too. I was running on the trail one day and there it was. I did what you are not supposed to do, I ran my ass off and went straight home!) on the Trail. As I already said, it is challenging. I would not recommend this trail to a beginning mountain bike rider. As a matter of fact the first hill (off of Notch Road, near the big cliff) kicks my butt (nearly) every time. I have made it all the way up only once so far on my new bike. It’s steep and gravely.

Anyway…if you are going to ride, run, hike the Preston Pond Trails please be respectful. Don’t trash the place.

For pictures of Preston Pond (and the Richmond, Jericho, West Bolton, Vermont areas take a look at this this map.
