There are lots of great mountain biking trails around West Bolton, Vermont. This particular trail is one of my favorites. It’s single track, lots of up hill and personally I find it challenging every time.
The route takes you around Lower Preston Pond as well as Upper Preston Pond via a windy hiking path in the beautiful (but buggy in the summer) Vermont woods. You pass over several wooden bridges, go by the Long, pass a few beaver huts and who knows, you might even see a moose (I have) or a bear (yup, saw one of those too. I was running on the trail one day and there it was. I did what you are not supposed to do, I ran my ass off and went straight home!) on the Trail. As I already said, it is challenging. I would not recommend this trail to a beginning mountain bike rider. As a matter of fact the first hill (off of Notch Road, near the big cliff) kicks my butt (nearly) every time. I have made it all the way up only once so far on my new bike. It’s steep and gravely.
Anyway…if you are going to ride, run, hike the Preston Pond Trails please be respectful. Don’t trash the place.
